On Sunday, September 3, the stage of Herodes Atticus turns into a rebetiko stage. Stavros Xarchakos - together with 20 other musicians, singers and singers - will convey the emotion, the excitement, the light, but also the charming darkness of the orchestral and the songs of this emblematic work which this year marks forty (40) years since took root in the hearts of the public.

Forty (40) years ago, despite the wishes of companies, he chose to find voices that fit what he dreamed of, voices with experience and special color.

So even now he chooses teamwork in the presentation of this work without flashy names and gives the first word to his orchestra. Everyone together plays, sings, composes a modern rebetik company, the condition of the rebetik stage of 2023 is created, with today's musicians, with the current musical perspective of Stavros Xarhakos on this now historic work of his and they reveal to us, how forty (40) years later, this work continues to evolve, to pioneer and to express the depths of the human soul.

The History:
It was in 1983 when Costas Ferris directed and presented, in a script written by him and Sotiria Leonardou, the film "Rebetiko", a landmark film, which, on the occasion of the career of a rebetiko singer (implied Marika Ninou), recorded Greece of the interwar period, the rebetikas, the life of the artists, the life in the refugee camps.

For the needs of the film, Stavros Xarchakos created new songs made with an old recipe that gave the feeling that it is an old rebetika. The record "Rebetiko" has since experienced many re-releases and huge acceptance, selling more than 250,000 copies and giving new impetus to rebetiko.
