On Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Philological Association of Parnassos, the violinist Giannos Margaziotis and the pianist Anni Totsiou, will present two of the most important works for violin and piano of the Romantic era.

Works that were created during the same period of time (1886-1887) and reveal to us the musical atmosphere that prevailed in two of the biggest cultural centers of the time, in France and Germany. The first work is Cesar Franck's sonata for violin and piano written in 1886 as a wedding present for the violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. All four movements of this Sonata are connected by similar, yet varied themes, a technique that Cesar Franck used under the influence of the great German Romantic composer, Franz Liszt.

The second work is Johannes Brahms' Sonata for violin and piano no. 3 opus 108. Unlike his two previous tripartite Sonatas, this one consists of four parts. The composer dedicated the work to his friend and colleague Hans von Bülow. The work was first performed in Budapest in 1888 with Jenő Hubay on the violin and Brahms himself on the piano.
