About

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center welcomes in the Stavros Niarchos Hall one of the most influential groups of the electronic scene, on whose sound the electronic sound was based from the mid-80s onwards.

Edgar Froese founded Tangerine Dream in Berlin in 1967 and managed and kept the pioneering band alive through a myriad of compositions and stylistic changes: from the almost otherworldly soundscapes and hypnotic synthesizers of the 1970s to dreamy synth-pop melodies and cinematic soundtracks of the 80s (Thief, Risky Business, Legend), Tangerine Dream have always been at the forefront of electronic music innovation.

Tangerine Dream's work largely paralleled that of Kraftwerk, and they likely influenced each other. However, they can boast that they composed ambient music long before Brian Eno, were one of Giorgio Moroder's main influences, while their influence on new age, trance and EDM music remains incalculable.

The one and only time that Tangerine Dream appeared live in Greece was in 1983, at the Lycabettus Theater. Forty years later, they come again for a concert in Athens, without their founder, Froese, who passed away in 2015, but led by Thorsten Quaeschning, whom Froese himself appointed as his successor.

Quaeschning will be joined by violinist Hoshiko Yamane and pianist and organist Paul Frick, presenting both their latest album Raum and tracks from their discography that spans over 100 releases.
