Legendary poet Patti Smith lands on the Roof to join the soundscapes of the Soundwalk Collective, a two-day event filled with images and sounds from contemporary reality.

"Correspondences" is an ever-evolving project resulting from the collaboration between Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith. Already running for more than 10 years, it traverses a multitude of geographies and their natural environments, where artists have uncovered sonic traces left there by poets, filmmakers and revolutionaries, as well as the impact of climate change.

Soundwalk Collective founder Stephan Crasneanscki has explored, recorded and collected the most remote parts of the world in sound, to awaken a sonic memory within the landscape, revealing traces of the past and current stories of the world we live in. The resulting compositions consist of sounds that express our relationship with this world, the environment, the soul of our existence and the creative process of the artist.

Stefan brought these recordings, originally composed as distant travel shots, the soundtrack of an unseen film, to Patti Smith, giving her new landscapes to channel her poetic vision. This ongoing coordination between the artists – which began after a chance meeting on a plane – took shape through their responses, as the project's title implies: ongoing discussions to reflect on life and nature.

The pieces they present become thought-provoking audio-visual journeys and range from a collaboration with TBA21–Academy, which explores the devastating impact of seismic airguns and, more generally, human interventions in the oceans, to nature's resilience after the Chernobyl disaster, the decentralized societies envisioned by Piotr Kropotkin and the wastelands of Pasolini's Last Night.
