EMST presents (on the 4th floor) the exhibition "We are together" which is the first thorough presentation in Greece of the work of the internationally recognized Greek artist Michael Karikis. It enables the public to get to know the multidimensional practice of a prominent representative of the diaspora, who has charted a significant path abroad.

Karikis' work is distinguished by his personal participatory practice, which combines video and sound and aims to highlight social, political and environmental tensions from the present and recent history. Always collaborating with groups of people, such as students, workers, pensioners or activists, and drawing inspiration from global industrial and political history, literature and the musical avant-garde, the artist orchestrates and records musical events that open crevices of hope in a future which prescribed inauspicious.

The exhibition is structured around six key video-audio installations from the artistic career of Michael Karikis in the last decade: Weather Orchestra (2022), Surging Seas (2022), Ferocious Love (2020), No Ordinary Protest (2018), Children of Unquiet (2014) and Sounds from Beneath (2011-2012). These installations are complemented and further developed through selected works, photographs, texts and smaller scale installations. The common denominator of the works is the special polyphonic poetics of Karikis, which, through different narratives and a sense of solidarity, connects groups of people fighting for a better future.

Michail Karikis was born in Thessaloniki – he lives and works between London and Lisbon.
