About

Tag Project Space presents a group exhibition of four artists from the School of Fine Arts (Voula Koukkou, Fotini Polydorou, Garden Thief, to_machola.). The title of the group is Móra and the subtitle Móra - Confessions of sleep paralysis.

"Confessions of Sleep Paralysis.
Repressed emotions, desires and dreams become insatiable, hungry demons in many traditions and cultures. She is the mora, the old witch of our childhood, or the kikimora with the crow's feet from Slavic traditions. It may be the incubus, the lecherous ape-like demon who flattens the young lady's breast in Fuseli's famous painting. In Japan, mora is kanashibari, the feeling of being "immobilized with metal shackles", and is usually due to the games of evil yōkai spirits. For a young Lord of the Rings fan the mora was a Nazgul, from which he could not hide and stood frozen before the messenger of death.
Creatures of the night, reflections of our visual culture, feed on everything we deposit in the shadows of our minds and become the very shadows that haunt us.
They change name, time, place, but cause the same feeling of suffocation, paralysis and helplessness, in the face of an almost invisible threat. In our most vulnerable moment, sleep, our mind refuses to surrender control and in an attempt to protect us produces this paradox, it creates an intermediate place between sleep and wakefulness. There, fear dominates and in our attempt to face it, we personify it - after all, one can fight better with a visible enemy than with an abstract concept.
But perhaps this peculiar dream is a condensed version of our life. And that's because Mora wanders the city not only at night, but also during the day. The cruel threat of running out of oxygen, the agony of survival and the daily paralyzing fear. Chthonian divinity roams our blank stares, expired sedatives, and uncertain tomorrows. It looks menacing, but in reality it's just a harsh reminder of unfulfilled dreams."
