The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum for Architecture and Design in collaboration with the European Center for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies present for the 2nd year the art exhibition Dia De Los Muertos - The Day of The Dead Exhibition.

The celebration of "Día De Los Muertos" is an occasion of encounter and remembrance that includes events through which death is recognized as part of the natural process of life. The "Day of the Dead" of Mexican tradition has also been declared by UNESCO as a World Intangible Heritage.

The purpose of the exhibition is to highlight the creative ways in which artists from around the world honor this deeply important holiday through artistic expressions of personal and global significance.

Artists from Mexico, the USA, the UK, Germany and Greece present works of art (2D or 3D), of different art media and expression, that creatively explore the essence and emotion of these traditional Mexican values. The images, symbols and motifs are endless: monuments and memorials, altars and shrines, paper banners, flowers, candles, saints, graveside vigils.

Alongside the art exhibition, a photo tribute by Mexican photographers will be presented with a theme from the Dia De Los Muertos celebration.

The exhibition was curated by Ioannis Karalias, President of the European Center for Architecture Art, Design and Urban Studies, architect, painter and poet and Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, President of the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum for Architecture and Design, architect, art critic ,
painter and poet.
