As part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Maria Callas, the National Opera presents Unboxing Callas. It is a visual program that draws inspiration from unboxing, as it became popular through digital communities, that is, a ritual process of recording the first contact with an object.

On the occasion of the new production of Medea, in the first part of the Unboxing Callas program, Vassilis Zidianakis invites the visual artist Panos Profitis to create a polymorphic visual experiment entitled From Callas to Medea, an installation in three acts, which for the first time occupies the areas of the foyer of the National Opera in the SNFCC. A central role in the installation is played by the relief profile of Calla, through which the story of Medea unfolds, in the sculptural composition of Panos Prophetis. At the same time, archival material related to the production of Medea at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus with Maria Callas, as well as material from Medea's presentations in Dallas, London and Milan, will be presented on the 5th floor of the National Opera foyer. Drawings and scraps from the costumes of Yannis Tsarouchis together with notes and direction books by Alexis Minotis converse with individual sketches and sculptural elements (matrices, moulds) by Panos Prophetis, in a timeless exploration of the artistic reading of the myth of Medea, always in connection with the legend of Calla.

The three operations that form the facility are:
• the sculptural installation that occupies the ground floor, and the 5th floor of the foyer
• a video installation that plays simultaneously on all screens, on all floors of the foyer
• a performance that activates the installation as a whole. Thanks to the ELIA-MIET Performing Arts Archive, for the kind provision of the material.
