Mateo Andrea is an artist whose work focuses on problems of form while exploring the tension between form, memory and visual perception. It explores the idea of seeing the world as an arrangement of occurrences in space.

The paintings he creates pose questions about the nature of the world and the ability to see. Through titles that are often simple and monosyllabic, Mateo Andrea presents the forms of his works, while also reflecting on his own existence. He uses a mixture of Spanish and English references to create a mysterious painting allegory that adds to the enigmatic quality of his work. The paintings depict imaginary journeys that create an atmosphere that exudes introspection and a mysterious energy.

His creations are open to interpretation, inviting viewers to bring their own perspectives while also experimenting with the limits of perception through illusions. Women are depicted as anthropomorphic entities, creating a composition where the human form intersects with animal features. These crossed entities create a world of hybrid creatures. This contrast and alternation offers the viewer a field of interpretation and search, enhancing the mysterious and at the same time challenging nature of his work.
